PWD Secretary Husn Lal reviews paddy procurement in Sangrur

In order to ensure hassle free purchase of paddy and need of curbing the ignominious practice of stubble burning in the state, Secretary PWD Husan Lal presided over a meeting held with Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori and other concerned officials in district administrative complex.
While addressing the officials, he appealed them to create an amicable social atmosphere where farmers themselves should build a consensus over the matter of putting an end to practice of stubble burning so that precious human lives may be saved from hazardous levels of pollution. He further added that Punjab Government is committed to end this practice.
He also appealed officials to reach all segments of society including NGOs and other leading organizations. But those indulging in violation must be dealt in stern manner.
While divulging the details, Secretary further said that Punjab Government has received a subsidy at the tune of 675 crore from central government for proper disposal of residue of paddy. The government is providing requisite paraphernalia to farmers out of this grant like happy seeder, zero trill drill and super SMS.
Throwing the light on initiatives taken by district administration in this direction, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori told that approximately 75 thousand metric tonne of paddy has arrived in market till now. Besides that, 597 nodal officers and 44 cluster officers have been appointed for the task of curbing the practice of stubble burning and 92500 rupees have been recovered from violators as fine so far.
He further assured that entire process of purchasing the paddy will be hassle-free. 147 combine owners have also been issued notices for harvesting without SMS facility.
ADC (G) also informed about various measures taken for ensuring hassle-free purchase of paddy and proper disposal of residue of paddy. Farmers are educated with awareness camps and posters. He further added that every possible initiative has been taken for smooth purchase of paddy.
Other top officials of district like District Mandi officer, Chief Agriculture Officer, DFSO, SDM Sangrur Avikesh Gupta, SDM Bhwanigarh Randeep Singh, SDM Sunam Manjeet Kaur, SDM Dhuri Deepak Rohilla, SDM Malerkotla Charandeep Singh, SDM Lehra Suba Singh, and DRO Gagandeep Singh were also present in meeting.
