Palwal, October 17, 2018: In a major breakthrough, the most wanted inter-state criminal Ajay Gurjar was finally arrested by Haryana police. He had been evading arrest since 2008.
He was declared Proclaimed Offender (PO). In 2015, Haryana Police announced 50000 Rs for any information leading to his arrest.
Speaking with babushahi.com, SP Palwal, Wasin Akram said that Gurjar was prodiced before the local court here on Wednesday which sent him to three-day police remand.
On October 16 morning, the CIA unit Palwal received a secret information about his movement in his native village Tumasra under the Police Station, Sadar Palwal. Simultaneous raids were conducted at 3 locations inside the village where the accused was cornered and subsequently arrested.
After searching his house and his hideout in Krishna Colony, Mathura, the police recovered 8 weapons including one desi Carbine with magazine, 4 desi .315 bore pistol, 2 desi 12 bore pistol with live rounds of ammunition.
He has 17 cases of robbery, extortion, attempt to murder and criminal intimidation lodged at various police stations in Palwal district. He also has several cases of murder, robbery, extortion and attempt to murder against him in Mathura and Bharatpur districts of UP and Rajasthan.
About his modus operandi, the SP said that in his typical style, Gurjar used to send typed 'letter of extortion' with a live cartridge filled pistol magazine inside a sweet box. He had deftly hidden his identity and the police had no record of his identification or physical features and he enjoyed support from his villagers, which made it extremely difficult to nab him.
In July, he threatened the owner of Guru Nanak Hospital in Palwal by sending cartridge filled magazine and demanded Rs One crore or face elimination of his family. Since then, Palwal police had intensified efforts to arrest him.
During preliminary investigation, the dreaded gangster also confessed to sending similar type of threats of extortion to 8 businessmen in Palwal and one in Mathura. He has active links with criminal gangs in Mathura and Aligarh districts of UP.
He was also connected with criminals in Mumbai and used to frequent Nepal to avoid arrest. He was a state-level Taikwando player before he became a criminal.
