Pehal Society launches move for garbage free Sangrur
Heritage structures to be preserved during renovation: DC

In order to provide people respite from pollution created by noise, transportation and environmental pollution in ongoing festive season the efforts made by 'Pehal Society' constituted under aegis of Deputy commissioner Ghanshyam Thori have started yielding the desired results.
While talking to media persons, DC revealed that in order to accomplish the target of clean and green Sangrur, the district administration had Initiated a special movement and now the number of temporary safai sewak recruited under pehal has been increased to 10 from 4 so that larger chunk of city may be cleaned before Diwali.
He further added that workers of municipal committee have also been actively engaged in this cleanliness drive. While divulging into the details, DC told that other historical sites will be next target of pehal.
Deputy Commissioner also congratulated these workers for their commendable job in removing much of the clutter on sacred occasion of Dussehera. He said that the wages of these safai sewaks have been sponsored by Indian Acrylics along with other corporate of the district.
While throwing light on future plans, DC revealed that a letter has been already sent to Director, Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Punjab for making elaborate arrangements for protecting and preservation of all historical buildings and structures in Sangrur. He also stressed on need of taking some appropriate and concrete steps for upkeep of these historical monuments.
Besides that, DC Thori also admitted that the iconic clock tower located in prime of the city is still clamouring for attention. The Deputy Commissioner also lauded certain individuals who have shown keen interest in preserving these monuments and told that an approval has been sought from concerned department to embark on renovation spree so as to make these sites look like as they originally did.
