Chandigarh, October 20, 2018: ‘’For any nation such as India to be termed as a superpower, it is important to invest heavily in the field of Science and Technology, so that the futuristic products and technologies can be indigenously developed and we need not to depend on other countries for the transfer of technology.’’ said Dr. Praveen Kumar Khosla, Associate Director, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL).
Renowned scientists and freelance app developers are participating during the two day NASA Space App Challenge where they would be interacting with the students through technological sessions, apprising them about the latest developments in the emerging fields of space exploration & App development.
He was speaking during the inauguration ceremony of the NASA Space App development competition at Chandigarh University campus. Teams from 30 Universities and colleges are participating in the two day space app development competition where the participating teams have to develop mobile apps which can be used by the space scientist to explore the mysteries of the universe.
While talking to the students of Aerospace Engineering at Chandigarh University, Dr. Praveen Kumar Khosla said that Indian Space programs currently rank amongst the top 5 nations which include USA, Japan, Russia, UK and China. After the successful space missions undertaken by ISRO the Indian Space scientists are in demand all over the world. He further added that,” It is a serious issue that the percentage of youth taking up science as a career option is declining year after year and government has to take a serious note of this situation”.
The scientist advised the government to make careers in the field of science and technology lucrative enough so that youth is motivated to pursue a career in this field, instead of opting for a white collar job in a multinational.
The two day NASA Space App Challenge comprises of 48 hour Non-stop Hackathon in which the students would be participating to develop the next generation of technologies that can be used in the field of Aerospace.
