Chandigarh, October 20, 2018: Indian challenge emded in the 2018 FISU World University Badminton Championship (Individual) at Majlis Sukan Universiti in Malaysia.
The best match for Indians in the women's singles quarter-final was contested between fourth seed Hung Yi-Ting and fifth seed Reshma Karthik of India. Reshma Karthik started promisingly by winning the first game at 21-17. However, Hung Yi-Ting bounced back into the game and won the next two games to clinch a semi-final berth. Hung won by 17-21 21-8 21-7 in 32 minutes.
Ajay Satish Kumar Nair of India was shown the exit door by eighth seed Malaysian Satheistharan Ramachandran in the men's pre-quarter-final round. After losing the first closely fought game at 23-21, Ajay jumped to a 4-0 lead in the second game.
However, Ramachandran fought back and levelled the score at 6-6, 14-14 before forging ahead by 15-14 for the first time in the game. He maintained his pressure and led 20-16 at one stage. Ajay tried his best to remain in the fray for winning the game to level 1-1. He reduced the margin to 19-20. Ramachandran then clinched the crucial and winning point 21-19 to move into quarter-final.
Satheishtharan Ramachandran maintained his winning spree as he rallied to upset third seed Lee Chia-Hao 13-21 21-16 21-17 in quarter-final match.
In mixed doubles third round fixture Indian pair of Shivasankar Eriyattu Jayprakash and Anjali Harendrasingh Rawat were beaten by fourth seeded Thailand combination of Supak Jomkoh-Kwanchanok Sudjaiparapati by 21-14 21-9
