Amritsar, October 21, 2018: The driver of ill-fated train that mowed down 61 persons here on Dussehra has stated that the train could not be stopped despite applying emergency brakes.
The driver Arvind Kumar made the statement during questioning after the GRP registered an FIR in the case.
He also stated that the train was slowed down to stop but people on the spot had started pelting the train with stones so the train was not stopped.
In the written statement, the driver said that he had applied brakes after seeing two yellow lights. Prior to applying brakes the speed of the train was 80 kilometres per hours. But after applying the brakes the speed had slowed down a little but by then it had run over the people standing on the tracks.
