Death sentence for convict Yashpal, Naresh given life imprisonment
New Delhi, November 20,2018 :
The Delhi Patiala House Court today pronounced death sentence for convict Yashpal Singh and life imprisonment for another convict Naresh Sherawat in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
The quantum of sentence in the double murder case was announced amid tight security outside the court. Both were convicted on November 15, 2018 .
Additional Sessions Judge Ajay Pandey had held Naresh Sherawat and Yashpal Singh guilty of killing Hardev Singh and Avtar Singh during the anti-Sikh riots, saying that “victims of mass genocide” cannot be left in “the lurch”. The case was lodged against the duo on a complaint filed by Santokh Singh, brother of Hardev Singh.
A large number of riot victim Sikhs and the leaders and workers of SAD Delhi led were gathered outside the court but the court was shifted to Tihar Jail and the sentence was pronounced in the jail .
It has also been learnt that the court imposed a fine of Rs 35 lakh each.
