Nawanshahr, December 10, 2018: Responding Positively to the district administration's awareness campaign against Stubble burning, the Farmers of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district have set an example to dispose of the crop residue without setting it on fire.
As per the reports compiled at state level, the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district has been ranked at second position in the decrease in Stuble burning incidents. The Stubble burning incidents have shown a decrease of 53 Percent as compared to the previous year, said Deputy Commissioner , Vinay Bublani while applauding the cooperation given by the Farmers to bring the number of Stubble burning incidents down. He also sought the commitment from the Farmers to make the district Stubble burning free by next harvesting season of wheat crop.
Deputy Commissioner Bublani appreciated the efforts made by the agricultural department and others who were put on the duty of making the Farmers aware to stop the practice of Stubble burning. He said that as many as 439 Nodal officers from various departments were put on this duty.
Chief Agricultural Officer Gurbaksh Singh added that as many as 67 awareness camps were organised in the district, in which a total of 4895 farmers had shown interest. To suggest the measure of disposal of Stubble and crop residue, 100 field exhibitions were conducted throughout the district and 196 latest agricultural equipments provided to the Farmers with a subsidy of Rs 1.25 Crore, he further added.
He said that it was a hard task to sensitise the Farmers to shun the practice of stubble burning and the department had gone beyond the set target of decrease of 50 percent this year . The awareness campaign was not limited to camps and field exhibitions.Besides, announcements through religious places and lectures at morning assemblies of schools also helped to give a fillip to the campaign, he added. Pamphlets, banners and awareness vans were also used to make the Farmers aware.
Similarly, the progressive farmers who used to dispose of stuble and crop residue with the help of happy seeders, rotavators, super sms equipped combine harvesters also contributed to the campaign to less the figure of stubble burning incidents, he added. He said that the district Rupnagar who was ranked at first, has only 7 percent more figure.
He said that the villages which did not burn the stubble would also be honoured to set an inspiration for others to follow.
