New Delhi, December 12, 2018: Environment and Forests Minister, Shri Imran Hussain on Tuesday reviewed the performance of all greening agencies related to their targets for trees and shrubs plantation for the current financial year.
The meeting was attended by the following departments - Forest Department, Horticulture Wing of MCDs, NDMC, DDA, DSIIDC, PWD, Development Department, Health Department, Education Department, DUSIB, Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Transport Corporation, Northern Railway, CPWD, BSES, Tata Power Ltd., and Delhi Parks and Gardens Society (DPGS) etc.
During the meeting, the targets achieved during 2018-19 were reviewed. The target set for the current financial year is 32.27 lakh plantations of trees and shrubs. Majority of the land owning agencies have informed that they have achieved the plantation targets set for them for the current financial year, 2018-19.
The minister praised the efforts of Delhi Jal Board, Education Department, Tata Power, PWD, BSES, Delhi Transport Corporation, Northern Railway and DPGS for over-achieving their targets.Hon'ble Minister also expressed the confidence that other agencies such as North DMC, Delhi Metro, Health Department, DSIIDC, DUSIB etc. Will carry out plantation during the current financial year as per targets set and are very close to them.
Mr Hussain expressed concern about low green plantation done by Delhi Development Authority DDA has planted only2.5 lakh trees against its target of 8.75 lakhs for 2018-19 affirmedby them in various meetings.He expressed hope that DDA will try to reach the targets set by them.
The Minister directed the agencies to ensure the survival of plantations, as only then the main purpose of greening was to be done.
He also Suggested to the Agencies to ensure that the plantations are regularly watered during the winter season especially from 15 th December to 15 th February, during the appropriate hours.
Mr Hussain directed the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests to regularly monitor the plantation activities by the perforctory basis. The minister said that he will personally monitor plantation activities on monthly basis.
