Kapurthala/Jalandhar, January 16, 2019: I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University inaugurates Product Design and Development Center (PDD) at its main campus Kapurthala on the occasion of University's 23rd Foundation Day. This is an exclusive centre to provide students practical knowledge through Region's Best Industry Simulated Environment. Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Sharma inaugurated this PDD Center in association with TATA TECHNOLOGIES.
During the inaugural ceremony VC Prof. (Dr.) Sharma said that the continuous advancement of technologies, global competition and safety requirements are compelling the industries to use advance tools for improving the “Product Design and Development”. The process is to build innovative, competitive and cost effective products with least time to market. He said that Government of Punjab is keen interested to provide its youth the best learning, training atmosphere in the region and by following its agenda Govt. of Punjab recently offered IKG PTU to establish an exclusive centre with the support of TATA TECHNOLOGIES.
VC Prof. (Dr.) Ajay K. Sharma congratulated the staff of University & TATA TECHNOLOGIES, who have done efforts to establish this centre before the time.
During the interaction with University staff, students, faculty members Vice Chancellor explained that this Product Design and Development Center is an industry simulated environment with latest technology tools used by major OEMs for product design & development. This center consists of high end industrial workstations, which are loaded with advance tools used for Design and Engineering, Virtual Verification & Analysis, Digital Manufacturing, Product Lifecycle Management etc.
VC said that these technologies will help student to understand the theory followed by industry domains and leading to creating of individual projects.
From TATA TECHNOLOGIES, Mr. Prasanna Deshpande, Team Manager (Education Services & Initiatives) briefed that in this unique set up of two display monitors per user and with TATA Technologies e-learning platform “I-get-it”, students will be taught the entire “Concept to Production” life cycle of different components and assemblies used in manufacturing sector. Students will also be able to work on the real life projects.
Before this inaugural ceremony, On the occasion of Foundation Day, University staff holds "ARDAAS" for "SARBAT DA BHALA". In the end "GURU KA LANGAR" distributed between University staff, faculty, students and visitors.
On this occasion, Registrar IKG PTU Dr. Sukhbir Singh Ahluwalia, Dean P&EP Dr. N.P. Singh, Director Academics Dr. Balkar Singh, Joint Registrar Dr. RPS Bedi, Dy. Controller (ITS & Examination) Dr. Paramjit Singh, PDD Center coordinator Dr. Neel Kanth Grover were also present.
