Panchkula, January 17,2019: Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Ram Rahim along with other three accused has been awarded life imprisonment in murder case of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati by a special CBI court. Ram Rahim was convicted under section 302 and 120 B of IPC for the murder of the journalist.He was convicted on January 11, along with three others- Kuldeep Singh, Nirmal Singh and Krishan Lal, of the November 2002 murder.
Besides Rs 50000 fine to each accused, the CBI lawyer also clarified that the life imprisonment to Ram Rahim will not run in concurrence with his earlier punishment for 20 years in rape case but will start once the earlier term ends.
The decision for life imprisonment was pronounced on Thursday over video conferencing. Special CBI court judge Justice Jagdeep Singh today pronounced the life term to the accused. Jagdeep Singh is the same judge who had earlier awarded 20 year imprisonment to Ram Rahim in rape case.
Ram Rahim is currently in Rohtak’s Sunaria jail, serving a 20-year sentence in rape cases, in which he was convicted by the Special CBI court in August 2017. The other three accused are in Ambala jail following the conviction.
Chhatrapati, a journalist based in Sirsa was shot at in October and succumbed to his injuries in November 2002 after his Hindi evening daily Poora Sach published an anonymous letter in which tales of sexual exploitation of women at Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters in Sira were highlighted.
