Bathinda, 18 January, 2019: The nomination of a new president of district congress committee (urban) Bathinda have failed to encourage and bring in the cheer up outlook in the congress party cadre, if the views expressed by the congress cadre are considered as indication.
Various congress men have expressed apprehensions that newly nominated president will not be able to deal with the situation as only three months have been left in the general elections. “Their point was that some more experienced leader was required to lead the district unit at this moment”. Number of congress men has communicated their feelings, while chatting with babushahi verbally on the occasion of the joining of rebel SAD leaders on Thursday. Their view point is that he is not well versed with the functioning of congress affairs.
One senior leader said “Though the new president is not much experienced in the organizational matters, but he will get fit in to the situation as Manpreet Badal did not wish to make any senior leader as president because he (President) may become ambitious and create troubles in future’. They needed a rubber stamp, so he will serve better, he added.
On being asked, what is the impact of the joining of three rebel SAD councilors, he said “They are not enjoying positive popularity in the city, but they do have a team of followers in their wards, which will serve a useful purpose for the party in the coming elections”. On being particularly asked about one councilor, who is facing serious misconduct charges, the congress leader meaningfully quoted “He is far better than the SAD leader of Gurdaspur, who faced same kind of misconduct”.
Recently, the congress party has replaced all its district presidents with an aim to rejuvenate the party and make it more workable for the 2019 general elections. In this reshuffle, Arun Wadhawan, who has been working in the District Cricket Association Bathinda, since the last 20 years has been nominated as new president of district congress (urban) unit. He is said to be personal choice of Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal. His father Jeet Lal has been elected twice as member of Municpal Committee Bathinda in 1992 and 1998 on congress symbol.
