Jalandhar, January 18,2019:- The deputy commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Friday sought the assistance of Canadian Government for safeguarding interests of the women abandoned by Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) husbands.
In a meeting Consulate General of Canada Mia Yen who called on deputy commissioner today in his office, Sharma detailed her about issues of deserted wives who were abandoned by men in abroad after the marriage.
He said that to help such women, there must be an active platform and mechanism where they can lodge their complaints easily and can get the justice promptly without any delay.
He also discussed regarding unscrupulous travel agents who mislead and cheat the youths and told the consulate general Punjab Government is already taking stern action them.
The deputy commissioner said that now the government has also initiated a registration system for the authorized agents to control the fraud cases in the state.
Sharma apprised her that Jalandhar which is part of Punjab's Doaba region and has maximum NRIs.
Meanwhile, the additional deputy commissioner (G) Mr Jasbir Singh also told the Consulate General about the various projects being carried out by Punjab Government in the district
Meanwhile, the Consul General Ms Mia Yen said that she is delighted to have the opportunity to visit Jalandhar and pleased to meet both Mr Sharma and Singh.
She said that the points discussed in the meeting would help to build a strong relationship between Canada and Punjab.
Yen also assured the officers that she would also look into the aspect of support that the Diplomatic Mission could provide in highlighting the issues.
