Patiala, January 21,2019: Former Deputy Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Bir Devinder Singh on Monday alleged that there was a "building notice racket" going on in the Patiala Municipal Corporation that has political patronage.
Singh alleged that the 60 ward-ward Patiala Municipal Corporation has 59 Congress councilors, handpicked by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh himself. He alleged that a building notice racket of such a huge magnitude involving large scale corruption cannot be so brazenly carried out in the corporation without political patronage "that too in his (Capt's) own constituency".
"I am appalled that the system is rotten to such an extent that it entails the dissolution of the Patiala Municipal Corporation, forthwith. I don’t think that people of Patiala deserve such an embarrassing punishment being inflicted upon by the ruling Congress councilors of the Municipal Corporation by any yard stick of the humane parameters of civility" said Singh.
He also asked Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu to act against the racket.
He stated "If the Chief Minister does not move swiftly in the matter than I would urge the Punjab and Haryana High Court to take suo-moto notice of the large scale bungling".
