The Swatchhta Survey, 2019 conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development , Govt. of India has brought double glory for Nawamnshahr . The Municipal Council, Nawanshahr has added golden feather to its cap by bagging " The Most Clean City" and " The Garbage Free City" awards in the category of Local Body Institutions having population less than one lakh. The Deputy Commissioner, Vinay Bublani and MC Chief, Lalit Mohan Pathak ( Ballu) received the prestigious awards from the Union Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development, Hardeep Singh Puri at the function held at Vighyan Bhavan, New Delhi, today.
While lauding the consistent, concerted and dedicated efforts of the Municipal Council, Deputy Commissioner, Vinay Bublani, said that it was proud moment for the Nawanshahr Municipal Councul as it was the only Municipal Council of the North India to get these awards. The Nawanshahr Municipal Council could get these awards for its innovative endeavour of starting project of preparing manure from the garbage by mobilising its own resources.
Lalit Mohan Pathak dedicated the prestigious awards to the Safai Sewaks, Municipal Councillors, employees as well as the residents who have contributed for making the swatchhta mission successful.
Executive Officer, Municipal Council, Ram Parkash said that as many as 14 tonnes of garbage had daily been collected directly from the houses of the town. With a view to converting garbage into manure more than 100 pits had been prepared.
MLA, Angad Singh, who has been associated with the project keenly, expressed his gratitude towards the whole team of the Municipal Council, NGOs and the residents for their relentless efforts for translating the dream of making Nawanshahr into Model town in Swatchhta Mission.
It is pertinent to note that during Swatchhta Survey 2018, Nawanshahr had bagged 5th place in North India and second in Punjab. The MC has resolved to get the top place and started dedicated efforts for achieving the target.
