Ferozepur March 9, 2019: The situation became uncomfortable during the press conference organized by the leaders of Rai Sikh community who own allegiance to Congress party who had come to express their views to give the ticket for the coming Lok Sabha elections from Ferozepur to an experienced leader of the party. The Rai Sikh community look to be puzzled over support to Sher Singh Ghubaya sitting MP from Ferozepur recently joined in Congress or Rana Sodhi, MLA and Cabinet Minister from Guruharhsahai.
In other words, they were opposing Sher Singh Ghybaya, sitting MP who has recently joined the Congress party and whose son – Davinder Singh Ghybaya - has already won the Assembly seat from Fazilka during the last elections.
Malkit Singh Hira Vice President SC Cell PPCC who had contested the Assembly polls in 2012 against Sukhbir Badal from Jalalabad admitted that the Rai Sikh community stands dividing over the entry of Sher Singh Ghubaya into Congress.
Hira started praising Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi and his contribution towards the Rai Sikh community for getting the SC status to the community. However, one of the members Joginder Singh from village Baler Ke in Jalalabad – raised his objection of calling them without disclosing the motive behind it but pacified by the other members.
The Rai Sikh leaders demanded from the Congress High Command to give the seat to the appropriate candidate in Ferozepur as this seat has not been won by the Congress for the last 34 years. But Rai Sikh community has been ignored and now we demand a candidate who has roots in Congress so that justice could be done with the Rai Sikhs, they said.
Since the joining of Ghubaya in Congress, the Rai Sikh voters are divided and confused as several Rai Sikh community groups have surfaced and giving statements in favour of their candidates. No doubt, the Rai Sikh community plays a vital role in the selection of any candidate from this seat but the situation is different as the day Sher Singh Ghubaya’s former Akali leader joined the Congress party, a number of leaders have staked their claim for the Lok Sabha seat from Ferozepur.
