Jalandhar, March 14, 2019: In its special drive launched against anti-social elements in view of forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2019, the rural police have arrested six persons and seized four pistols along with nine cartridges.
The accused persons have been identified as Sahil Chandel of Hargobind Nagar, Rohit Pandey of Kakka Bhoda Colony, Ludhiana, Kabul Singh, Bikram Singh of Sangat Singh Nagar, Maqboolpur, Jasvir Singh of Village Mulle Chak, Amritsar and Saurav Pal of Barring village Jalandhar
In a press conference, SSP (Rural) Mr Navjot Singh Mahal said that sub-inspectors Nirmal Singh and Surjit Singh along with police party laid police checking at Sutlej Bridge Phillaur and started conducting checking of the vehicles.
"During the checking around 02:45 PM, one Creta car bearing registration No. PB-02-CW-6001 was signalled to stop but its driver didn’t stop the car. The police party with the help of barricades stopped the car. The driver of the car revealed his identity as Bikram Singh and the person sitting on the adjoining front seat revealed his identity as Kabul Singh whereas the person sitting on the rear seat revealed his identity as Jasvir Singh".
SSP said that the police party conducted the checking and recovered .32 Bore two country-made pistols along with 04 live cartridges. In this regard case, a FIR u/s 25 Arms Act was registered in PS Phillaur, district Jalandhar (Rural).
SSP further told that in a similar drive, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sohan Singh of CIA Staff, Jalandhar (Rural) along with police party laid another Naka near Sutlej Bridge Phillaur and started conducting checking of vehicles. He told that during the checking of vehicles at 04:00 PM one Scorpio car bearing registration (PB-10-EV-6830) coming from Ludhiana side signalled to stop but its driver did not stop the car.
"The police party with the help of Barricades stopped the car. The driver of the said car revealed his identity as Sahil Chandel and the person sitting on the adjoining front seat revealed his identity as Rohit Pandey", he informed.
The personal search of Sahil was conducted, which led to the recovery of 01 country-made pistol 32 Bore along with 03 live cartridges. In this regard case, an FIR under section 25 Arms Act was registered in PS Phillaur, district Jalandhar (Rural), he added.
Mr Mahal said that Sahil in the year 2013 kidnapped one person from Doraha and took a ransom of Rs 5 Crore from his family. In this regard case u/s 364-A, 307 IPC was registered in PS Doraha, district Ludhiana. Later, Sahil was arrested from Una (HP) and the kidnapped person as well as the ransom of Rs. 05 Crore was recovered from him. In this regard case, FIR No. 92/2013 was registered is PS Una (HP) in which he had sentenced imprisonment of 03 years.
He said that Sahil was released on bail in the year 2019. The recovery of 01 Pistol 32 Bore along with 03 live cartridges, which has been effected from Rohit Pandey was purchased by him from UP.
Further in another case, ASI Gursharan Singh from Goraya Police Station, Jalandhar (Rural) along with police party while conducting patrolling in the area of village Beer Bansian, near Dera of Gujjars at about 02:30 PM and arrested accused Saurav Pal and recovered .315 bore one Pistol along with two live cartridges from him. In this regard case, u/s 25 Arms Act was registered in PS Goraya, district Jalandhar (Rural).
Note: It is worth mentioning here that since 13-07-2018 till date, the rural police have registered 18 cases of Arms Act and arrested 41 accused, from whose possession 39 Pistols/Revolvers along with 150 live cartridges have been recovered.
