Fazilka March 20, 2019: To ensure massive participation of district residents in the election process and make them health conscious, the District administration Fazilka is organizing marathon on Sunday, March 31. The meeting for the preparations was today held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Mr. Manpreet Singh Chhatwal at district administration complex.
Divulging more details, the Deputy Commissioner said that in a bid to make people aware about the right to vote under the Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SWEEP) activities and to make the society free from the menace of drugs, the administration in collaboration with Punjab Sports Department will hold 5 and 10 km marathon races at MR Government College stadium, which will end at the starting point by touching the turning point towards international border. He apprised that the district administration has registered 850 district residents so far and participation would be expected more than 1000. Deputy Commissioner said that the participants, after registration, would get free T-shirts and Bib kits and tokens for the same can be collected from the office of the district sports officer, Fazilka. Kit will be given before the starting time on March 31.
Entrusted upon the duties to civil and police administration, the Deputy Commissioner directed police officials to ensure the security and traffic arrangements, Youth Services and District Sports Department to deploy required motorcycle-borne volunteers and coaches along the route, which will run along the players to monitor every activity. He categorically directed Civil Surgeon to stationed 2 ambulances at starting and finishing point and 1 mobile van with runners besides medical teams to immediately provide first aid in case of any untoward incident. He said that municipal committee officials would be accountable to ensure cleanliness around the stadium and route, while 6 stalls of potable water will be set up by District Mandi Officer.
Deputy Commissioner appealed district folks to participate in district administration ventures. "With regard to the cleanliness during a marathon, I appeal to the player to use dustbin, which will be placed along the way by district administration", he said. Mr. Chhatwal said that for the registration form, anyone can contact the office of the District Sports Officer.
EVMs and VVPAT machines stalls to be a point of attraction:
Mr. Manpreet Singh Chhatwal said that EVMs and VVPAT machine stalls to be a point of attraction at the stadium, where the resident would be explained about the use of the machines. He said that the stall to aware the people about the bad factors of drugs would also be erected.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr. R.P. Singh, SDM Jalalabad Mr. Keshav Goyal, District Education Officer Mr. Kulwant Singh, District Sports Officer Mr. Sunil Kumar, Tehsildar Elections Mr. Satpal Bansal and several other officers were present during the meeting.
