Pakistan not to allow any construction on land tilled by Guru Nanak Dev
Islamabad, March 20, 2019: In deference to the sentiments of the Sikh community, Pakistan Government has announced that no construction will be allowed on the land tilled by the Guru Nanak Dev during his life at Kartarpur.
The decision taken at the meeting chaired by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was shared by Pakistani federal minister Fawad Chaudhary while addressing mediapersons on Tuesday.
Chaudhary linked the decision to the letter written on the issue by Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu in January 2019 to the Pakistan PM.
In the letter Sidhu had conveyed the collective desire of the Sikh community to retain the sanctity of the 30 acre land on which the first Sikh Guru did agriculture during the last 18 years of his life spent at Kartarpur.
The area in question should not be used for any construction activity having commercial purposes, Sidhu had maintained.
