Chandigarh, March 21, 2019: With an aim to ensure migrant labourers working in state get their votes made, Labour Department has decided to appoint nodal officers in each district.
A meeting in this regard was held here today under the chairmanship of Chief Electoral Officer S. Karuna Raju and Principal Secretary Labour S. Venkatrathnam with the Assistant Labour Commissioners....
Addressing the meeting the CEO S Karuna Raju said that in a democracy every individual had a defined role and hence it was imperative that each elegible voter had their vote made. He further said that there was a huge number of migrant population in Punjab and most of them had been living here without their voting cards.
This makes it essential for them to be included in the democratic system, he added.
Most of them employed in construction sector, Industrial units or at Kilns stay here with their families and they have not got their votes made yet.
At the time of travelling to Punjab for work their age is below the required age for issuance of vote and hence they remain without a vote here and in their home state as well, CEO said further.
On the occasion, the CEO explained about Form 6, Form 7 beside the C Vigil App.
Principal Secretary Labour S Venkatrathnam said that his department would issue the notification regarding the decision to appoint nodal officers soon.
Labour Commissioner Punjab Vimal Setia and Gurpreet Singh Atwal were also present during the meeting.
