Jalandhar, March 23, 2019: The Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today led hundreds of volunteers to take solemn pledge for further wiping out the curse of drugs from the Jalandhar district.
In an impressive function held at DAVIET today to mark the martyrdom day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, the Deputy Commissioner administered oath to the volunteers from various educational institutes to wipe out the curse of drugs.
In his address the Deputy Commissioner unequivocally said that drug menace was the biggest hurdle in realizing the dream of our forefathers who had fought relentlessly for emancipating the country from the yoke of British imperialism. He said that the time has come when the war against drugs was further transformed into a mass movement to ensure that Punjab in general and Jalandhar in particular was made drug free. Sharma exhorted all the volunteers to work zealously for attaining this target, which was a humble but befitting tribute to our youth icons like Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.
Paying floral tributes to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, the Deputy Commissioner said that these great sons of the soil had laid down their life for emancipating the country from the shackles of foreign imperialism. He said that martyrs were not confined to any religion, community or region as they were the pride of whole nation and a fountain head of inspiration for the coming generations. Sharma pointed out that real tribute to our great martyrs was to follow the footsteps shown by them and contribute in the socio-economic growth of the state and the country. He also recalled that that our great freedom fighters made supreme sacrifice for the betterment of coming generations and to ensure holistic progress of the country and the state adding that all of us should make strenuous efforts to cherish he aspirations of our freedom fighters.
On the occasions students of Government Senior Secondary School Gakhal also presented a Nukkad Natak highlighting the ill effects of drugs.
