Chandigarh, April 15,2019: Jaipur has got a woman candidate in 57 years for its upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
According to She The People, Jyoti Khandelwal has been fielded by Congress in the state that goes to poll on April 23 and May 6. Earlier it was Gayatri Devi from this constituency who won on Swatantra Party ticket in 1962.
Congress had also fielded a woman candidate Sharda Devi then.
Khandelwal who resigned from the post of general secretary of Congress in 2018 is in competition with Ramcharan Bohra of BJP.
Khandelwal in an interview said, “Indeed there are challenges in women contesting the election but I have a firm believe that I will get full support of women in Jaipur. Be it social, cultural or religious events, I have always been involved with the women in Jaipur. They would set an example that if a party gives chance to a woman candidate, she can win the elections", quoted She The People.
Krishna Punia from Churu, Savita Meena from Dausa and Jyoti Mirdha from Nagaur are the other female candidates that have been fielded for LS seats.
