Will Dalbir Kaur be subjected to DNA test?
Chandigarh, April 18, 2019: Dalbir Kaur, sister of Sarabjit Singh who had died in a Pakistani jail about five years ago, may face test to prove her blood relation with him.
As the sister of Sarabjit Singh (49), a border area resident of Punjab, she had led a sustained campaign for his release from Kot Lakhpat jail of Pakistan where he had died on May 2, 2013 after attack by fellow jail inmates.
After receiving complaint, the state home department has asked Director General of Police (DGP) to probe the matter. The DGP office has forwarded the complaint to Bureau of Investigation, it is learnt.
In its complaint, the Maharashtra-based NGO demanded the DNA Test on Dalbir Kaur.
When contacted, Dalbir Kaur declined to comment saying that the matter was pending in the court.
The family of Sarabjit Singh too had in the past raised a question mark over her alleged claim as his real sister. Along with the family, she was also a recipient of monetary compensation given by the then Punjab government led by Parkash Singh Badal.

Though Sarabjit Singh and his family had pleaded that it was a case of mistaken identity and that he had strayed into the Pakistani territory yet he was named as an accused in Lahore bomb blast case. He was subsequently put in jail where he had died.
