Moga, April 22, 2019: (UNI) A fire broke out in the fields of two villages of Moga district, destroying 21 acres of wheat crop, district agricultural department reported on Monday.
District agriculture official Jaswinder Singh Brar said, "18 acres of wheat crop was destroyed in Sada Singh wala village and three acre in Karyal village. The raging flames caused mostly due to short circuit or sparks in the live high tension wires of 11,000 V over the area"
However, the fire was controlled by the villagers before fire brigade's arrival, but the crops worth lakhs of rupees could not be saved.
The Panchayat of both the villages have appealed to the state government to provide full relief to the owners of the fields.
With the advent of summer season, incidents of fire destroying standing crops worth crores of rupees increases and adds to the miseries of the farmers already caught in a serious agrarian crisis.
