Mansa May 08, 2019: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal said here today that Captain Amarinder Singh's open admission that the Congress would contest the SGPC poll to gain control of Sikh shrines has finally exposed his party's long cherished dream of destroying Sikh institutions by capturing them.
" Captain's naked ambition on SGPC also explains his total disinterest in his present job and the total administrative paralysis in the state," said Mr Badal.
"You must be the only Sikh to indulge in false oaths if Gutka Sahib and of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj and yet nurture ambitions of grabbing control of Guru's abode , the Sikh shrines. You openly take pride in indulging in practices forbidden to a Gursikh. You proudly belong to a party which rolled tanks and mortars to destroy Sri Akal Takhat sahib, bleed Sri Harmandar Sahib and massacred thousands of innocent Sikhs. And you openly defend people like Jagdish Tytler whom the Sikhs regard as their killers , and yet you talk of contesting election to the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee. Are you going to field the likes of Tytler in these polls? ," asked Sukhbir Singh Badal addressing election rallies in Mansa and Sardulgarh areas.
Badal said seizing control of Sikh shrines by sabotaging the mandate of the Sikh sangat was an old dream of the Congress. " They have tried to gain direct control their stooges in Panthic garbs. But the Sikh masses have always rejected these proxy candidates. Then the Congress tried to gain control through the back door by planning to disband SGPC and replacing it with a Board. But they had to bow before the pressure of the sangat. Finally they sent the army and destroyed the holy Sri Akal TAkhat sahib just to terrorise the community into surrendering control of the SGPC to the Congress govts. But the brave Sikh community fought it back," said Mr Badal adding that Amarinder seems to have learnt no lesson from the tragic past and is bent upon repeating the blunders of the past.
