Jalandhar, May 14, 2019: Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar today finalized the blueprint of foolproof security arrangements for the day of polling (May 19) to ensure free, fair and peaceful Lok Sabha polls.
Presiding over a meeting here at his office, the Commissioner of Police said that the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police would uphold the glorious tradition of the Punjab Police to ensure free and fair polls in the state. He said that the Commissionerate Police has already finalized the strategy in this regard by the deployment of the Punjab Police and Para Military force in the district. Mr. Bhullar said that on the polling day one Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police and three Assistant Commissioners of Police would be deployed in every assembly segment in Commissionerate area along with one reserve each earmarked for maintenance of law and order in the area and for checking of polling locations.
The Commissioner of Police said that currently 43 patrolling parties of Central Para Military Forces (CPMF) and Punjab Police personnel have been deployed to patrol the area besides carrying out regular flag marches and foot marching by the security forces especially in the vulnerable areas as part of confidence-building measures. He said that for the polling day, the number of patrolling parties which would patrol the area intensively would be enhanced to 66 adding that all these patrolling parties would consist of Punjab police personnel. Mr. Bhullar said that security would be beefed up further with the deployment of 28 nakas adding that patrolling parties and nakas would be supported by 22 gazetted officers each having one reserve of police personnel.
The Commissioner of Police further said that due to strict action taken by the police so far ` 85,06,585/- in cash has been recovered. Furthermore, on the front opened against the smuggling/distribution/pedaling of narcotics and drugs the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate has able to recover 382 kg. of poppy husk, 600 gm. Heroin, 8.5 kg. of opium, 3 kg. of ganja, 3,175 capsules, 900 tablets, 197 injections, 335 gm. of intoxicating powder and 10,145.5 lt. of liquor. Likewise, as many as 10 illegal weapons along with 68 cartridges were also recovered.
