Hamirpur, May 19, 2019 - Around 68.06 per cent voters exercised their franchise for this Lok Sabha seat on Sunday.
Polling was brisk in the morning hour and became slow, once the Sun shone bright. It became brisk once again in the afternoon hours, while large number of people cast their votes at the fag end of voting.
Polling in 2014 elections was 68.70 per cent in Hamirpur district and 67.90 per cent in all parts of Hamirpur LS seat.
Total polling in this Parliamentary constituency has been recorded at 68.82 per cent this time, as against 67.90 per cent in 2014 elections.
Women once again outnumbered men, while casting their votes at different polling stations of the district.
In 2014 elections, as many as 73.81 per cent women had exercised their democratic right, as against 63.59 per cent in Hamirpur district.
Similarly, voting percentage for Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat in 2014 elections for women was 71.73 per cent, as against 64.07 per cent men.
Senior BJP leader Prem Kumar Dhumal and his MP son Anurag Thakur, who is also the party nominee from the Hamirpur seat, cast their votes, along with their family members at Samirpur polling station, in the morning hours.
Prof Dhumal and his family visited the temple of Maan Awahdevi and offered their tributes to the deity and sought her blessings for them and the people of the state.
While talking to reporters at Samirpur polling station, Prof Dhumal said the party was sure to win all four Lok Sabha seats in the state and also form government at the Centre, as people had voted en masse in favour of BJP.
He said the large turnout of people was pro-BJP and it would help the party to form its government at the Centre, led by Narendra Modi. It was not a Modi wave, but Modi tsunami, the BJP leader claimed.
BJP candidate for the seat, Mr Thakur said he was sure to win the election for the fourth time in succession with the blessings of the people, who wanted BJP to rule the nation again.
