Jalandhar, May 19, 2019 (SK.Vyas): Around 62.36% voters of Jalandhar Parliamentary Constituency exercised their franchise during the general elections held here today amidst elaborate arrangements made by the district administration.
Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the entire voting process for the Lok Sabha constituency has been completed in a totally peaceful the manner during the general elections. He said that the polls in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat was generally peaceful adding electors participated in the polls without any fear and inducement to exercise their franchise despite of hot weather. Mr. Sharma said that the polling percentage in the general election was 62.36% whereas it was 67.21% at the previous Lok Sabha polls held in year 2014.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines collected from the polling parties would be dispatched to the counting center at the office of Director Land Records Punjab, where counting of votes were to be done, amidst tight security. He said that Para Military Force would be deployed at the counting center along with round the clock surveillance through the CCTV installed in the premises of the counting center. Sharma said that counting of votes would take place on May 23 at 8 am during which around 500 members counting staff would be deputed in the counting center for counting the votes.
The Deputy Commissioner said that on the counting day the staff would be divided into 15 teams with three members on each every table. He said that no stone would be left unturned to ensure that the counting was held in a peaceful and transparent manner besides in consonance with the guidelines of the Election Commission.
