Patiala (21 May 2019): With the scientific vision of Chairman, PPCB Dr. S.S. Marwaha, PPCB has installed a pilot project having two paddle aerators in Patiala Nadi, so as to improve upon the water quality.
Disclosing this to press, Member Secretary of the Board Er. Krunesh Garg said that during analysis of the water quality of the Nadi, the DO (dissolved oxygen) in it was found negligible which may be the major cause of concern for the deteriorated water quality. Chairman of the Board gave a scientific solution to this
problem by proposing to install paddle aerators which will be operating all the times leading to the increase in the DO concentration, improving upon ecology which will improve the water quality of Patiala Nadi. Three industries (two paper mills and one distillery) located in the catchment area of Patiala Nadi supported for this project. Pilot project installed in Patiala Nadi at Village Saparheri was inaugurated by the Chairman of the Board. On this occasion, he said that such
scientific ideas, if given a practical shape, shall help to improve the environmental quality of the Rivers of the State. He further said that water quality of Patiala Nadi (upstream and downstream of the project) shall be monitored to know the impact of these paddle aerators. After this pilot study, this project shall be replicated in Budha Nallah, East Bein & other water bodies facing the acute problem of deterioration in water quality. Local Body Department is being pursued regularly by the Board to install the new STPs as well as to upgrade the old STPs, wherever required. Action Plan for River Ghaggar has already been formulated and activities related to different stakeholders is being monitored regularly. On this occasion, Er. Dev Raj Goyal, SEE, Er.
