FM pays tribute to late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi

District Congress Committee members today organized a function at Bathinda to commemorate the death anniversary of the youngest Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi. Paying floral tributes to the Congress leader, Bathinda Urban MLA and Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Badal said “the country lost a great and revolutionary leader in Rajiv Gandhi”.
Speaking on the occasion Finance Minister said, “Rajiv Gandhi is rightfully known as the architect of digital India. He played an instrumental role in India’s growth. He is remembered as the Prime Minister who provided the basis for telecommunications and Information Technology in India. He is also credited for introducing computerization”.
In 1985 his government introduced MTNL and VSNL which revolutionized telecom and IT industry in India, exports of the country were boosted with his ideas and efforts, he added.
The FM said, “In order to improve education system of the country, Rajiv Gandhi announced a "national education policy" to modernize and expand higher education programs across India. The idea of opening Jawahar Navodya Vidhyalaya was of Rajiv Gandhi Government. The concept of opening a JNV in every district of India was born as a part of the National Policy on Education, 1986. Today, JNV’s in the country are providing education to lacs of students, thus creating empowered youth in the service of the nation”.
The FM said the ideas and decisions of Rajiv Gandhi was to build India where development, prosperity, fraternity, secularism, inclusive growth, social justice parity reign supreme.
Every congress worker should put efforts to build India of his dreams,he added.
In his address Bathinda Urban Congress President Arun Wadhawan said, “In order to take democracy to the grassroots level, Rajiv Gandhi worked for Panchayati Raj institutions and Rural Development”.
Later, the Congress leaders and workers observed a two-minute silence to pay respects to Rajiv Gandhi. Congress leaders raised slogans like “Rajiv Gandhi amar rahe”.
Several Senior congress leaders Ashok Pardhan, Jagroop Gill, KK Aggarwal, Pawan Mani, Mohan Lal Jhumba Raj Numberdaar,Baljinder Thekedaar, Satpal Bhateja,Inder Sawhni,Master Harmandar Singh including all MC's addressed the party workers and paid tribute to Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary.
