DC Ferozepur orders digging out buried fire hydrants besides availability of Fire Safety equipments in all institutions
Ferozepur, May 27, 2019: The buried fire hydrants in the city in the narrow lanes will be dug out for use in the event of any fire incident, said Chander Gaind Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur taking a serious notice of such fire hydrants lying buried and the recent fire tragedy in Surat.
In case of a fire, the fire fighters need clear access to a hydrant. Otherwise will be wasting valuable time digging out their water source. Over 150 Fire Hydrants are buried in the narrow lanes in the bazaars and streets.
Digging out the buried fire hydrants cold lead to treasure for Ferozepur residents, said Deputy Commissioner. Besides, all educational institutions, IELTs, government and private offices, gas agencies will be ensured to have fire safety arrangements, he said.
Expressing concern over the Surat fire tragedy where more than 20 students have died, Deputy Commissioner directed the Fire Officer in Fire Brigade to dig out all buried FH – Fire Hydrants in the city and report back within a fortnight and also visit the institutions from time to time to ensure the availability of fire extinguishers. He has also been asked to try and use the old equipments to boost confidence among the public about the availability of arrangements to meet any challenge of fire incident.
He said, in case of any fire incident; if the Fire Fighters have to dig out a hydrant, one can well imagine the ticking of the time. In future, the PWD or Sewerage Board will ensure that Fire Hydrant points are properly raised and made useable at any time whenever any further construction or repairs on roads and streets are undertaken.
