Doctors across Punjab protest against attack on medicos in Kolkata
Chandigarh, 14 June, 2019: Following the attack on Dr. Paribaha Mukherjee of NRSMCH and subsequent attacks on medicos all over Kolkata, the government doctors across Punjab under the banner of Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA) protested against the attack on Friday.
On a call given by PCMSA, The government doctors all over Punjab wore black badges as a mark of protest against the brutal attack over a resident doctor of NRs Medical college Kolkata two days ago. Gate rallies were held to show solidarity with doctors who are on strike and are under immense pressure of the government. The doctors demanded police protection in all government hospitals to protect doctors doing emergency duties who are under constant danger of attack by unruly mob.
"We strongly condemn brutal attack on Dr. Paribaha Mukherjee of NRSMCH & subsequent attacks on medicos all over Kolkata", said state president Dr Gagandeep Singh Moga in a press release adding that they stood in solidarity with protesting doctors and demand to bring a strict law against assault on healthcare workers.
"The association has pledged to carry out an extensive study across all hospitals and medical colleges in Punjab to collect the data regarding various aspects of this evil problem- assault on health care givers", said Dr Gagandeep Singh Shergill the senior vice president of the PCMSA adding, "the association will furnish the data to honorable Chief Minister and Health Minister and will ask for bringing to solution to a logical conclusion".
Meanwhile security from Punjab police was demanded at all DH and SDH across state by the association. General Secretary of the body Dr Manohar Singh and Organising Secretary Dr Indervir Gill appealed to all the government doctors to stay united on the common platform to fight against such attacks.
Dr Ranjit Singh Rai (Mansa), Dr Harpreet Singh (Ludhiana), Dr Chander Shekhar (Faridkot), Dr Manjit Singh (Fazilka), Dr Sohan Singh Ropar, Dr Madan Amritsar, Dr Harish Bharadwaj Jalandhar, Dr Gurmail Singh Bathinda led the protest in the various districts while protests were also reported in Patiala, Barnala, Sangrur, Mohali and Moga.
