Fatehgarh Sahib. June.19, 2019: The district administration has registered more than twenty one thousand Drug Abuse Prevention Officers (DAPOs), who are playing an important role to curb the menace of drugs abuse, said Dr. Prashant Kumar Goyal, Deputy Commissioner, while presiding over the meeting of DAPOs here today.
He said that 2466 Sarpanches, Panches, Block Samiti and Zila Parishad members, 11,827 at Sub Divisions level and 7090 through District Sanjh Kendra have been registered as DAPOs. He said that the people's participation in the war against drugs is ensured through DAPOs by organising seminars and workshops. He said that DAPOs create awareness among the people about the ill effects of the drugs and deal with the drug affected people and their families in a sympathetic way to motivate them for the proper treatment, moreover they also promote social welfare activities. He said that the State Government has been providing free treatment to drug affected people through its Drug De-addiction canters and OOAT clinics.
The Deputy Commissioner said that to save the children from this menace parents should spend plenty of time with their children and they must adopt friendly approach towards their kids so that children would not hesitate to share their activities and views with their parents. He called upon the social organisations and everyone to contribute to eradicate this menace.
