June.24, 2019: The district administration has intensified the campaign to curb the drug menance and the treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts at Out Patient Opioid Assisted Treatment (OOAT) clinics, said Dr. Prashant Kumar Goyal, Deputy Commissioner, while giving the details about the ongoing anti drug campaign in the district.
He said that seven OOAT clinics are operational in the district and till now 1296 drug addicts have been registered in these clinics. He said that 276 drug addicts have been registered in the Rehabilitation center and OOAT clinic, Fatehgarh Sahib, 323 addicts at Sub Divisional Hospital, Mandi Gobindgarh, 72 addicts in the Community Health Center (CHC) Khera, 113 addicts registered in CHC Khamano, 300 addicts in CHC Amloh, 74 addicts in CHC Bassi Pathana and 138 addicts have been registered in CHC Chanarthal Klan.
DC said that Govt. is operating OOAT clinics with the aim to provide easy and free of cost treatment to the patients and the patients are not required to be admitted there rather they can visit these clinics for medicine on daily basis. He said that specially trained staff has been appointed in these clinics and course of the medicine starts after the complete checkup of the patients. He said that the counselling was the major part of the treatment being provided in these clinics with which patients were motivated to shun the drugs and lead a normal life.
Dr. Goyal said that the collective efforts were the need of hour to completely eradicate the problem of drugs from the society and whenever any body came to know about any drug addict then they must try to motivate the drug addicts to register with the OOAT clinics. He further suggested that the parents should adopt friendly approach towards their children so that their wards did not hesitate to share their activities with them and discuss their problems in an open way.
