Fatehgarh Sahib. June 24, 2019: The Bassi Pathana Sub jail, where the ninth Guru of Sikhs Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji had been kept for several months on the order of Mughal Administrator of Sirhind, Nazim Abdul Azeez Dilawar Khan way back from July 24 to the end of October 1675, so the said ancient jail should be announced as a religious monument of the Sikhs in commemoration of the four months imprisonment of the ninth Guru of the Sikhs, said Bir Devinder Singh, the former Deputy Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, while talking to the media persons after presenting memorandum to DC in this regard here today.
He said that ninth Guru of Sikhs along with his ardent disciples Bhai Mati Das Ji, Bhai Sati Das Ji and Bhai Dyala Ji were captivated here. Authenticating his claim, he showed several history books based on the research of eminent historians and Sikh Scholars such as Dr. Fauja Singh, Dr. Tarn Singh , Prof Piara Singh Padam and Giani Garja Singh proving the stay and captivation of Guru Teg Bahadur ji in the “Hawalat” of ancient Jail Bassi Pathana . He urged the state Government through the Deputy Commissioner to announce the place as a religious site for Sikhs and get its renovation done by the state archeological department.
He warned the Government that any attempt of the state government to construct a modern district jail on the site as announced by Jail Minister Randhawa shall be resisted in form of peaceful agitation of Sikh Sangat. He along with several other prominent local leaders submitted a detailed memorandum to Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner.
