Seeking support from public to eradicate drugs from district Sangrur, the deputy commissioner Ghanshyam Thori and SSP Dr Sandeep Garg said that every resident can contribute to eradicate big social evil like drugs addiction.
Deputy Commissioner Thori while participating as chief guest in the district level function organized to mark International drugs abuse day at the auditorium of SLIET Longowal said that resident from all sectors should participate in drive against drugs so that children and adult should not become slaves of drugs.
He said that DAPO scheme launched by Punjab government has given a new hope to many families and with government initiative people have started moving away from drugs.
Thori told that when he visits the drugs deduction centers, rehabilitation centers or OOAT clinics he takes feedback from the persons getting treatment there as it helps in bringing improvement.
He said with initiatives taken by government public have become aware against drugs addiction which is a good sign for future. He also told that there are now three psychiatrists in district who understands the psychic condition of such patients for ensuring their physical as well as mental fitness.
He directed to enhance the pace of monitoring the Buddy and senior buddy programs being run for students. He said that every department, private organization, panchayats, doctors, shopkeepers etc should pledge to make its surrounding free from drugs because mass movement is required to end this menace.
Ghanshyam Thori said that state government has become successful in breaking the drugs supply line and catching hold of anti social elements and to save the youth from drugs efforts are being made at every district level. He said that people of Punjab had stood firm against black days of terrorism then this drugs menace is nothing as compared to those days he said every district resident should step forward for participating in this drive initiated by state government against drugs.
He said every family should make youth in the house aware of the drugs menace and its effects only then we can encourage people to stay away from drugs.
Deputy Commissioner Thori said that state government has established OOAT clinics, rehabilitation centers and drugs de addiction centers for treatment of addicts and here youngsters get free medicines for treatment.
He said patients getting treatment at these centers are made aware of effects of drugs by expert councillors and they also get facilities like yoga, meditation and food so that drug addicts could get happy life after getting treatment from these centers
At this occasion district police chief Sandeep Garg while addressing said, “We all need to join hands together to curb this drugs menace. District police has contributed while organising camps with support of district administration for creating awareness at every village and city level.
He in his address also told about ill effects of drugs. He said that district police has registered 314 cases against drugs suppliers and arrested around 450 drugs smugglers. He told that any resident can inform about drugs suppliers and drug addicts at Punjab police helpline number 181 and name of informers will be kept secret.
He said that information coming to this helpline number is forwarded to concerned senior police officials and reports are sought about action taken over the complaints. He appealed to the public to make optimum use of this helpline.
Before this, director of drugs de addiction center Mohan Sharma invited heads of all social, religious organizations to make joint efforts to make Punjab drugs Free State. He said that drugs affect the human body deeply and drug addict can neither perform his duties for family nor he can live a good life socially. He said that awareness is the only way to bring some improvement.
Colonel Tarsem Dulal assistant district in charge and social servant Dr AS Mann also shared their views. Both speakers encouraged people to perform their role for making drugs free society.
