Teams of NDRF and SDRF deployed, instructions issued to SDMs
Moonak / Sangrur, July 18, 2019: Taking note of the 25 feet breach in the Ghaggar river at Phulad village of Moonak, Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Ghanshyam Thori and SSP Dr Sandeep Garg immediately reached the spot and reviewed the situation. DC assured the residents of villages that the Punjab government was fully committed to safeguard the lives of the people living near Ghaggar and breach will soon be plugged.
He said that every situation related to possible floods was being monitored by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. DC Thori said that to deal with any critical situation, the district administration and police personnel along with the army personnel are keeping tab over every situation. Thori and SSP also surveyed the situation on the rough roads along Ghaggar while riding a motorcycle.
DC said although the water level in the Ghaggar river has decreased in the neighboring districts, still there is no slowdown in the vigilance of the district Sangrur and the villagers have also been appealed to be cautious about the rumors.
Deputy Commissioner revealed that in order to deal with the possible flood situation, all arrangements have been made to provide the relief material as required at the time of urgency like filled, empty bags of sands, ropes, nets etc. He said that as soon as the administration detected the breach the 7th battalion of the NDRF and the 80th Battalion of SDRF were immediately contacted and their teams have already reached the spot.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration is fully prepared to deal with any situation of possible floods and has been directed to make adequate arrangements for the safety, property and livestock security of the people. He said that the personnel posted in the Flood control room set up at Khanauri have been asked to keep in touch with the State Flood Control Room immediately to ensure quick and prompt action in case of any crisis.
He claimed that district administration is continuously coordinating with the top officials of the Punjab Government and the NDRF. On the sensitive areas of Ghaggar, strict vigil is being kept and on receiving information about any breach appropriate arrangements have been made for the immediate plugging of the breach.
Thori said that on July 1, the district administration at Khanauri had held a meeting with the officials of the Indian Army's 3 Guards unit and informed about the situation in advance, after which on July 6, a mock drill was also conducted. Meanwhile, Thori instructed all the Sub-Divisional Magistrates of the district to keep a close watch on the drains and inform about the situation of any crisis immediately.SDM Moonak Suba Singh, XEN Drainage Kuljeet Singh, DSP Buta Singh and other civil and police officers were also present.
