Chandigarh, July 22, 2019: The Government of Punjab has approved a scheme for financial assistance to journalists in recognition of contribution of mediapersons in dissemination of information to the public.
To be eligible for the scheme, a journalist should:
a) Be a Citizen of India.
b) Not be less than 60 years of age.
c) Have been accredited by the Department of Information and Public Relations, Government of Punjab, for a period not less than the qualifying period (of not less than Five Years out of Six years counted backwards from the appointed date).
d) Have been a Journalist for at least 20 years in the State of Punjab.
e) Not have any criminal proceedings pending against him
f) Not be in illegal occupation or possession of any Government Property
g) Not be drawing a salary or a pension, provided that where a journalist is drawing a financial assistance from a Fund wholly or partly subscribed by him, the same shall not render him ineligible to receive Financial Assistance under this scheme.
To avail this scheme, an application has to be submitted in the format prescribed by the Department of Information and Public Relations, Government of Punjab.
An application shall be submitted within a period of not more than six months from the appointed date. Provided that the Competent Authority may, in exceptional circumstances, relax this period by a further six months for reasons to be recorded in writing.
