Longowal (Sangrur), July 24, 2019: A special seminar was organised here on Wednesday under the Punjab government-supported ongoing campaign to eliminate the menace of drugs from district Sangrur. Principals of government and private schools of the district took part in the event.
Addressing the attendees, Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Ghanshyam Thori said while the district administration is making determined efforts to thwart attempts of anti-social elements to trap youth in the web of drugs, teachers can also play a pivotal role in preventing youth from falling prey to drugs.
Thori appealed to the principals to keep an eye on every activity, behaviour and habits of students during school hours as well as motivating them on a daily basis to stay away from drugs and other bad habits.
The DC said as the students spend a substantial time in schools, daily supervision by the school staff will ensure they don’t get attracted to drugs.
“If the class teacher notices any signs of change in the behaviour of the student, their parents should be informed immediately as children are the country’s future and only healthy children will make the nation prosperous,” he said.
He added that it is very important make children aware about drug menace at an early age.
“It is very important to check what kind of friends they have. Due to bad company, children first get addicted to habit-forming medicine and gradually as their addiction increases they start taking strong drugs,” the DC said.
Meanwhile, SSP Dr Sandeep Garg said police has already tightened noose around drug smugglers in the district. He said teachers can play an important role in making students understand the ill effects of drugs and they can motivate them to become good citizens of the country.
Garg also appealed to the school heads to get CCTV cameras installed in their institutions so that activities of drug peddlers roaming around educational institutions can be monitored.
Earlier, psychiatrist, Malerkotla, Shazia Anjum, Master Trainer, Sukhjit Singh, Lecturer, Government Senior Secondary School, Bhalwan, and Malvinder Singh, Lecturer, Government Senior Secondary School, Maajhi, presented special lectures on the topic of drug menace.
