DC, SSP jointly reviewing the sensitive areas, Administration ready to combat flood-like situation,

Ferozepur, August 19, 2019: Keeping in view the alarming situation due to release of 2,40,000 cusec of water from Ropar headwork, Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur Chander Gaind has ordered the stationing of National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and three columns of Army each column containing 80 personals (total 240 personals) at vulnerable points in Zira, Makhu and Hussaniwala areas.
Gaind said that to combat any flood-like situation in the district, these deployments have been made besides twelve motorboats and other necessary life-saving equipment in the most sensitive areas.
The deputy commissioner further said that yesterday evacuation orders for most sensitive 52 villages had been issued and a large number of villages have been successfully evacuated by the concerned officials. The evacuees have been taken to the relief centers, which were set up at various locations. The requisite arrangements of food and shelter have been made to all these centers, added Gaind.
Divulging further, he said that 1.05 Lakh cusecs of water has been discharged at Harike head and situation is under control at the moment, adding he said that the officials of drainage and irrigation departments have been asked to be ready with gunny bags full of sand and other relevant material to fill any kind of rift in the embankments of river Satluj, if any situation came up.
The Deputy Commissioner said that every effort would be made to ensure that the evacuees and villagers were extended a helping hand in the hour of crisis. Gaind said that he would personally supervise all the arrangements to tackle floods in the district.
