MOGA, August 20, 2019: In a relief to the people living in villages near the Sutlej river in Dharamkot, the water level, which had touched the danger level gauge at 724 feet on Monday, has seen a decline of three feet on Tuesday.
Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Moga Sandeep Hans said that the water level has started receding in the river while the district administration with the help of a company of National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and villagers have been evacuating people from the flood-affected villages.
A 22-membered NDRF team led by Inspector Rahul Partap Singh and Sub-Inspector Amar Partap Singh has safely evacuated over 450 persons with the help of villagers from five most affected villages including Sanghera, Kambo Khurd, Bhaini, Mehrowal and Sherewala. As per the information, around 28 flood-affected villages are falling in Dharamkot sub-division.
Deputy Commissioner said that evacuees are being taken to the four relief centres including in Dharamkot, Kishanpura Kalan, Khamba and Fatehgarh Panjtoor established by the district administration where requisite provisions of food and shelter have been made. He said that medical teams have also been deployed at all the centres for the treatment of the evacuees and one emergency centre has also set up at Rerhvaan village.
He said that NDRF will remain on standby so that they could handle any kind of emergency and rescue operations in case of need.
Meanwhile, the district administration has also launched the helpline— 01682-220103— for the flood-affected people that they can contact them for any kind of help.
