Punjab Patwaris up in arms over burning-demands Equal Work-Equal Pay, to sit on one-hour dharna on August 29
Ferozepur, August 22,2019: Patwaris who have always played a crucial role in administration throughout the course of India history and known as Village Accountant, have decided to sit on one-hour dharna on August 29 over their main burning-demand of ‘Equal Work, Equal Pay.
This was disclosed today by Mohan Singh Bhedupura, President Revenue Patwar Union Punjab – RPUP, while addressing the media persons at Press Club Ferozepur today.
He said, the main demand of the union include Equal Work-Equal Pay because as per Article 39 D of Indian Constitution, as all Patwaris are working sitting on one table. But there is a difference of Rs.15,000 among the Patwaris appointed on the same day.
Quoting the example of Patiala, Bhedupura said, the patrwaris appointed in 1991 in Patiala are getting the salary of Rs.70,00 whereas the same cadre persons in Ferozpeur on becoming Kanungo and Naib Tehsildar are getting Rs.55,000 per month. When the new judges and doctors are being given the full pay then whey there is discrimination for patwaris in probation period for 5 years while for other appointments is three years, he added.
The training period of patrwaris should also be included in the probation period likewise Tehsildar and the probation period of new patwaris shoud be reduced from three to two years, said Bhedupura.
Talking about the other demands he said, the old pension scheme should be restored as pension is the only social security on retirement, installments of DA and arrears should be released, providing laptops in this high-tech era and making adequate arrangements for the visitors at the Work Stations.
He also said that with the regular appointment of 200 patwaris posts lying vacant, no post will be vacant in all the 4716 patwar circles.
Condemning the contractual appointment of Kanungo and Patwaris, the Union leaders demanded to roll back this decision and there should be regular inquiry wherever there are such appointments.
Giving a warning to the government, the President, RPUP said, the agitation will be intensified after the dharna on Augusut 29 by chalking out further protest strategy.
