Contract workers demand job regularization, in protest burn government’s effigy
Ferozepur, August 23, 2019: Resentment prevails among the contract workers of Water Supply department over a long pending demand of regularisation of their services despite putting more than a decade service. Today, workers under the banner of Water Supply Contract Workers Union, in protest burn the effigy of the government.
Addressing the protesters, Baljinder Singh Sodhinagar President said, the civil administration had given an assurance to make arrangement for panel meeting of Contract Emplyees Sangharsh Morcha with the Chief Minister on August 20 and the state level rally fixed on August 14 and 15 was withdrawn but later on the administration backed out from its commitment.
In protest, the union has decided to organize week-long protest by burning the effigies of the government, from 21-28 August at the district, block and tehsil levels.
The union leader said, as per the procedures and various court rulings, a worker employed for more than 480 days must be made a regular employee with appropriate salary and other related benefits. They said, the statement, however, had refused to even have a panel meeting with the workers and backed out from its commitment.
The union leaders appeal to the protesters to remain united and continue our protest against making false promises and policies of the government, to awaken the sleepy government.
