To curb the menace of air pollution in Asia's biggest Steel town Mandi Gobindgarh, the Govt. has initiated special campaign and taken various steps to make the town pollution free. The people particularly the industrialists and the farmers should join hands to curb the fastly rising menace of pollution as it has reached at disastrous point, if we did not take immediate measures our coming generations will not spare us. The industry must switch over to new technologies to further effectively control the menace of pollution, said Anand Sagar Sharma SDM Amloh, while interacting with media after presiding over the meeting of officials of various departments here today.
He said that industrialists have been advised to convert their units in CNG from the coal being presently used as CNG Gas Station has already been set up. He said that Pollution Control Board has specially designed a device for the recovery of metals from the hazardous waste i.e. dust generated from the Air Pollution Control Device (APCD) installed in the steel melting furnaces.
He directed the forest department officials to plant saplings at war footing and the officials to complete the construction work of the incomplete roads. He directed the transport officials to ensure the working of pollution checking centers effectively and to challan over loading vehicles as they cause maximum pollution.
He called upon the people and NGOs to come forward to join hands with the administration to make the town pollution free as without the involvement of public nothing can be achieved. He advised the managements of educational institutions to convert their buses to CNG from diesel.
