Gurdaspur, September 18, 2019: Rejecting the bail application of MLA Simarjeet Singh Bains on September 16, Sessions Judge, Gurdaspur, Ramesh Kumari in her order said Bains was an ‘habitual offender’ who has a habit of ‘intimidating, threatening, obstructing the government officials/officers’.
Bains, who is MLA from Atam Nagar, Ludhiana, was booked for misbehaving with Gurdaspur DC Deputy Commissioner Vipul Ujjwal and a FIR was registered against him under Sections 186, 353, 451, 147, 177, 505, 506 IPC.
He had a heated argument with Ujjwal when he was in Batala to meet the injured in the firework factory blast.
The judge also wrote in her order that “inspite of being booked time and again, he failed to mend his behaviour. Being a representative of public and elected member of State Legislative Assembly does not give any licence to the applicant to misbehave with government servant.
Rather, he should be sensitive to his own powers and limitation. He is expected to be voice of unheard and at the same time to be sensitive and considerate towards a public servant who discharges his functions and responsibilities in surcharged atmosphere especially at a time and place when area under his administration suffered fire tragedy”.
