Punjab By Polls: Low Poll Percentage As Compared To 2017

The Punjab today witnessed overall peaceful poll in four assembly constituencies. Till the filing of news report, 65.57% voting percentage was recorded in Punjab. In Assembly constituency (AC) No. 29 Phagawara 55.97 % voting registered while in AC no. 39 Mukerian 58.62 %, AC no. 68 Dakha 71.64 % and in AC no. 79 Jalalabad 75.46 % voting was registered.
The polling percentage is low as compared to the 2017 assembly polls of Punjab.
The polling in 2017 in these constituencies was as under :
Phagwara....72 %
Mukerian.... 70 %
Dakha ....81 %
Jalalabad .....-87
The Chief Electoral Officer Punjab Dr. S. Karuna Raju while thanking the people of Punjab for coming out in large numbers to exercise their democratic right, said that the focus of ECI was to ensure peaceful poll in a free and fair manner.
He also said that in the morning during mock poll 11 ballot units, 11 control units and 41 VVPAT machines were replaced and 1 control unit, 2 ballot unit and 34 VVPATs were replaced during the conduct of poll. He also said that not a single case of disruption of poll and inducement of voters was brought to the notice of the Commission. He further said only one case of firing was reported from Jangpur Village in Dakha after the poll party left the village in the evening.
