As per guidelines issued by the National Green Tribunal (N0GT) and Punjab Government and directions by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ghanshyam Thori, special teams today visited 62 places to check the cases of burning of crop residue and imposed fine of Rs. 50,000 in 20 cases.
In this connection, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ghanshyam Thori conducted a meeting with SDMs, officials of agriculture department, district food and supply controller, punjab pollution control board, government procurement agencies and officials of revenue department and reviewed the activities and action being done to curb the unhealthy practice of stubble burning.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the revenue department officials that Patwaris to visit villages to check the cause of stubble burning and make sure to send report of action taken by them on daily basis. DC said that the Nambardars, Sarpanches, Panches, Government Employees or those who have acquired the panchayat land on lease, have to face action in the case of stubble burning. In such cases action would also be taken against concerned landowners if they had given that land on lease.In stubble burning cases, red entry will be marked in the revenue record of concerned owner, DC added.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the SDMs to monitor the cases at sub-divisional level on regular basis and appealed to the farmers for eco-friendly management of paddy straw.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Rajesh Tripathi, Assistant Commissioner Mr. Charanjit Singh, SDM Sangrur Babandeep Singh Walia, SDM Sunam Manjit Kaur, SDM Dirba Manjit Singh Cheema, SDM Dhuri Satwant Singh, SDM Lehra Kala Ram Cansal, SDM Bhawanigarh Ankur Mahindru, Chief Agriculture Officer Jaswinderpal Singh Grewal were also present in the meeting.
