PGI in Ferozepur yet to see light of day, needs another 10 acres land
Ferozepur, November 15, 2019: Today, Secretary Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development, Raj Kamal Choudhary visited Ferozepur to take stock of the situation with regard to transferring of additional 10-acre land required out of the existing Fisheries Department campus in Ferozepur.
But 100-bed PGI Satellite Centre announced in 2013 during the fag end of the UPA-II regime, is yet to see the light of the day as ten-acre more land is required in addition to 25 acres already transferred at Malwal.
As per the sources, the PGI Satellite Centres for Sangrur and Ferozepur were sanctioned. While the Satellite Centre at Sangrur has already started and in this border town, the finalization of land is still on cards. However, the setting up of the PGI Centre in this Ferozepur will end the waiting period of locals who have faced the loss of lives due to inadequate medical facilities here and adjoining areas who have to travel to Chandigarh for specialized health-care services.
Secretary, Fisheries Department, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur and local departmental officials had about a one-hour discussion on providing additional 10-acre land required for setting up PGI in Ferozepur, from the existing Fisheries Department campus where 26 Ponds are already working -
Parminder Singh Pinki, Congress MLA Ferozepur who also, later on, joined at Fisheries office said, earlier 25 acres of land has already been transferred for PGI Satellite Centre and in the second plan, it was decided that another 10 acres land is required for Medical College and Nursing School. He said, Rs.500 crore project stands approved by the government and shortly the work will start on this venture. It will be a big relief to the people of the area to have the best health service with the start of PGI Satellite Centre in Ferozepur besides generating employment opportunity and business in this border town. I hope all issues will be settled by the end of this year.
Chander Gaind, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur said, PGI Satellite Centre in this border town is need of the hour and Secretary, Fisheries Department have today paid a special visit of the campus who will submit his report to the government and further action will be initiated accordingly with regard to mutation.
