Farmers return ‘Appreciation Letters’, demand permanent solution to stop stubble burning
Ferozepur, November 18, 2019: Today farmers returned the ‘Appreciation Letter’ in support of the other farmers against whom police cases have been registered or challaned by the district administration and Pollution Board officials, terming it as a double policy of the government. However, the stubble burning is still continuing in certain parts of the district.
To stop the farmers from burning stubble as an act of rebellion, the district administration honoured certain farmers with ‘Appreciation Letter’, a few days back for not burning the stubble, on a call from the government to pollution-free environment, showing resentment over the indifferent attitude of the government.
Added here, on getting no relief from the government and solution for stubble burning in the fields, the farmers continued to burn the crop residues and the government has registered number of cases against the farmers for violating the government instructions.
Today, Devinder Singh Sekhon, farmer who was honoured during the last month for not burning stubble was given appreciation letter in the presence of various officers, returned the ‘appreciation letter’ in the office of the Deputy Commissioner,
Speaking to media persons, Davinder Singh said, there is a great resentment among the farmers community when as many as 1563 farmers have been booked for stubble burning in the state besides putting a red entry in the revenue record, issuing challans and seizure of combines.
He said, the government has failed to provide the required machinery – Super Seeder that costs a little above R.2 lakh - to the farmers for dispose of crop residue and farmers were left with no alternative except to burn the stubble in the fields itself to prepare the land for cultivation.
Davinder Singh said, the farmers are angry that even as they suffer from farm distress and do not get any proper returns on their labour and produce but the onus of stubble burning is put on them. I request that the government should come forward to help the farmers.
