Chandigarh, November 18, 2019: Suchetak Rangmach Mohali proudly presents 16th Gursharan Singh Nat Utsav, with the kind support of Punjab Kala Parishad, Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Academy and Punjab Sangeet Natak Academy. On the third day of this festival the famous play “Mann Mitti Da Boleya” showcased by Ms. Anita Shabdeesh very beautifully. The Punjabi play writer and poet Mr. Shabdeesh kumar has written this play and depicted the pain and grief of women in Indian society. This play is not a monologue about the rape victims but takes the story forward with well designed scenes and techniques used in them.
In this play we not only witness the pain of a school going girl raped by her own father and grandfather but also see how a well-educated girl being humiliated by her own colleague and an illiterate women who totally deny to accept a male dominating society. The show took a hype when we see the real life struggle of Mukhtara Mai, who was raped by five men on the order of Panchayat in a village of Pakistan. But she did not decided to end her life after this, she fought against the cruelty and won the case. She donated all the money for the study of girls belong to poor families and open a school for them also. All these characters have been performed by Ms. Anita Sandeesh, she changes characters only by changing the dupatta on stage.
The play starts with raising the question on the European society of Time of Elizabeth and the on the rape case took place in the capital of our country. It is the same time when a girl was screaming on the roads of a village of Punjab for help as her father and grandfather has raped her many times and this is really a matter of grief that no media reached there to show her story. Domestic violence is always hidden behind the bricks of honour of the man of the house. This is always a shameful thing for us, that a women herself don’t want to report because she thinks that by this her husband will get insulted in the society and tolerate everything silently.
This play don’t want to create discrimination between men and women but on the other hand the writer just want to make the women of society and aware and want to encourage them so that they raise voice for their rights.
